Some of you may know Airin as the make-up artist and co-founder of ARLY. While she may think she’s an ordinary girl, she definitely has an extraordinary heart and is someone who is always more than happy to help other women rise. She has shared her mental health struggles with us and how she manages them. So we thought it would be great to have a quick catch-up with her here and find out more about how she lets her light shine.
MY STORY IS …
I am just any ordinary girl you see on the street and I got lucky to be able to tell and share my story. I have always been interested in biology and chemistry. But at the same time, I was brought up in an environment where I flipped magazines at a very young age which got me into this (beauty) industry. The perfect combination of science and beauty.
What does it mean to let your light shine?
Letting my light shine means that I can be the guide when a friend or someone I’ve met is going through a dark route. It’s guiding them towards the light. I don’t believe in shining under the spotlight alone and I may sound like an idealist here but I think celebrating others’ success is much more fun than asking for the spotlight to be and stay on you.
How do you show up for yourself on days when it feels hard to do so?
I would take my time to cry it out and release any negative energy before moving on to face the day anew. It’s not fair to bring your negativity to a day where good things might unfold for you.
What does growth mean to you?
To me, growth is about being courageous to unlearn and relearn things. It’s about being curious and cultivating resilience through what you’d like to excel in. I don’t believe in being complacent even if it seems that I’ve achieved certain things. I believe in being a student of life.
What is your crazy?
I’m crazy in the sense that I take the chance when I see an opportunity. Yet I’m crazy with the fear of death. So I guess you can say that my crazy is living my life to the fullest.
